Catracho Shirts and Gifts: Honduran Pride Ideas That Go Beyond the Flag

Ten ways to show Honduran pride beyond a flag: hometowns, maps, Catracho and Catracha lines, family and church sets, match days and gifts, plus color tips for light and dark shirts.

Catracho Shirts and Gifts: Honduran Pride Ideas That Go Beyond the Flag

The short answer: the best Catracho shirts keep the blue and white of the Honduran flag and add one personal detail: a hometown, a family name, a map of Honduras or a line such as “Catracha de corazón.” Pick one idea, keep the lettering big and check the design on the shirt color you choose. If you want something ready-made, our shop carries exclusive Catracho and Catracha tees, and we also print your own idea.

This guide is for Hondurans in Houston and for the family and friends who buy for them. It goes beyond the flag: ten design ideas, how to use the flag colors and stars so they stay readable, ideas for groups and gifts for relatives, and an order brief to copy.

What does Catracho mean, and how is it used on shirts?

Catracho (feminine, Catracha) is the affectionate name Hondurans use for themselves, and many wear it with pride. Hondureño and hondureña are the formal words, and for kids you will hear catrachito and catrachita. Because it is the name Hondurans give themselves, it lands best on shirts for Hondurans and for the people who love them.

The flag: what to keep and what to simplify

The flag has three equal horizontal bands, blue, white and blue, with five blue stars in the white band. The blue bands are commonly explained as the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, and the stars as the five nations of the former Federal Republic of Central America. Those details are what people recognize first, so protect them.

The five starsIn the white band, large enough to seeAt left-chest size (3.5 to 4 in) five stars become dots, so use the colors and lettering instead
The blueA clear, bright blue, judged on the mockupDark navy next to black disappears, and screens look brighter than fabric
The coat of armsLeave it off unless you know the rules for using itIt is an official symbol, so use the colors, the stars and your own lettering

Some countries have rules about how a flag or a coat of arms may be used. Hondurans widely wear the flag colors on shirts, and the simplest way to stay respectful is to keep the flag whole, undistorted and out of jokes.

Ten Catracho shirt ideas that go beyond a flag

Pick one. A shirt with a single clear idea reads better in a photo and is easier to approve.

  1. Your hometown or department. Honduras has 18 departments, and a name like Olancho, Choluteca, Copán or Yoro says where the family comes from. City names such as San Pedro Sula or La Ceiba work too. Add a star or a heart over the place.
  2. A map outline of Honduras. Blue on white, or white on blue, with a star on your hometown. Draw the outline yourself or ask us, and do not copy a map from the internet, because maps can be copyrighted.
  3. Catracho and Catracha lines. “Orgullosamente catracho,” “Catracha de corazón” or “Hecho en Honduras, criado en Houston.” These are plain phrases, not anyone’s slogan.
  4. Honduras and Houston together. The 504 country code next to 713 or 281, or “From Honduras to H-Town.” Short, bold and easy to read.
  5. Symbols from Honduran nature. The scarlet macaw (guara roja), the white-tailed deer (venado cola blanca) or an orchid, drawn as an illustration next to the lettering.
  6. Family reunion and church-group sets. One design for everyone, a name or role on the back, blue and white throughout. See our family reunion shirt ideas and church and ministry shirt ideas.
  7. Match days. Blue and white for the national team’s games, with names and numbers on the back. Use your own design: the team’s crest and the official jersey design belong to the federation and the kit maker.
  8. Couples. “Mi catracho” and “mi catracha” on two shirts that answer each other.
  9. Little ones. “Catrachito” or “Catrachita” on a youth tee. Youth sizes are cut for kids, not just smaller adult sizes.
  10. Food and humor. A baleada drawn with love, or “Team Baleada,” for casual shirts. Keep the joke kind and the drawing respectful.

Spanish, English or both: which language goes on the shirt?

Spanish lines land with Hondurans of every age, English lines reach friends and the kids who grew up here, and both languages together keep the whole family in the photo. A simple rule is one language per side: “Catracha de corazón” on the front and “Houston, Texas” or a name on the back. Or write one bilingual line.

Whatever you choose, keep the accents and the letter ñ exactly right (hondureño, Copán, Danlí) and send the text typed, not as a photo. Ask a Honduran relative to proofread the spelling and the tone. The mockup shows every letter, so read it slowly before you approve it.

Ready-made Catracho and Catracha tees in our shop

Our shop carries exclusive Catracho tees: the playful Catracho Pride Bear in blue and white, the Catracha Style tee and the Catracho Style tee, both on Gildan G500 heavy cotton. Each product page lists the sizes and colors available.

If your idea is different, we print it from scratch. One order can mix designs, so a family can wear the ready-made tees and add a custom shirt for the group.

Blue and white on light and dark shirts

The shirt is the biggest color in the design, and the flag has a white band. On a white shirt that band simply disappears. On black, a dark blue band does the same.

Shirt colorWhat worksWhat to watch
White or light grayBlue lettering and stars, with the white band outlined in blueA white band on white shows nothing, so outline it or place the flag on a blue shape
Black or navyWhite and a lighter blue, with a white outlineDark blue vanishes. We use DTF for most dark garments, which prints a white layer under the color so it stays vivid
Royal or bright blueWhite lettering and a white bandBlue on blue loses contrast, so outline blue parts in white
Heather grayBlue and white with a darker outlinePale gray and white lose contrast

Three more habits help. Keep the lettering bold, because thin script and tiny stars fail first. Keep text short on a left-chest print, which is only 3.5 to 4 in wide. And judge the final colors on the mockup, since a screen looks brighter than fabric. Our guide to designing for dark and light garments goes deeper, and what DTF printing is explains the white layer.

Gifts for relatives: mugs, tumblers, frames and pillows

A gift for a relative works best when it is something they use or look at every day:

We ship across the U.S., so a gift can go straight to a cousin in Dallas or an aunt in Atlanta, and you can also pick up in Houston. We do not ship abroad, so a gift for a relative in Honduras has to travel with someone. Our personalized gift ideas compare more items.

How we help with Catracho shirts and gifts

Tell us what you have in mind, in Spanish or English: a finished design, a hometown, a family name or only a feeling. We prepare the print-ready file at the right size and canvas, draw the design when you need one and show a mockup on the shirt color you choose. Nothing is printed until you approve it, so you can check every accent and every star first.

Adult, women’s and youth sizes can share one order. Pick up in Houston or have it shipped across the U.S. Start with our custom t-shirts, see events and celebrations for a reunion or a church group, or browse personalized gifts.

Frequently asked questions

What does Catracho mean?

Catracho, or Catracha for a woman, is the affectionate name Hondurans use for themselves, as in orgullo catracho. The formal words are hondureño and hondureña. Many people wear it with pride on shirts, flags and gifts, and it lands best from Hondurans and from the people who love them. It is informal, so it fits casual designs better than formal ones.

What colors should a Honduran-themed shirt use?

Blue and white, the colors of the flag. The flag has three equal bands (blue, white, blue) and five blue stars. On a white shirt the white band disappears, so outline it in blue, and on black a dark blue disappears, so use white or a lighter blue. We show a mockup on each shirt color you are considering.

Can I print the Honduran flag on a shirt?

Many Hondurans wear it. Keep the flag whole, in the right proportions and out of jokes, and leave the coat of arms off unless you know the rules for using it. Some countries have rules about their flag and coat of arms. If you are unsure, ask someone in your community, and send us your idea so we can show a mockup first.

Can you print the national soccer team's jersey or crest?

Usually not without permission. The crest and the official jersey design belong to the team's federation and the kit maker, and we may decline artwork we cannot print for rights reasons. We can print a fan design in the national colors, with your own lettering, names and numbers.

Do you ship Catracho shirts and gifts to Honduras?

We ship across the U.S. and offer pickup in Houston, but we do not ship abroad, so a gift for a relative in Honduras has to travel with someone. For relatives in the U.S., give us the delivery city and your date when you write. Shipping adds carrier time after production.

Can one order mix adult, women's and youth sizes with different names?

Yes. Adult, women's and youth sizes can share one order, and names or hometowns can differ from shirt to shirt. Send one list with the cut, the size and the exact text for each shirt, spelled with the accents it needs. Most standard orders are ready in 2–5 business days after you approve the design.
